OBITUARY

Mrs. Rosie Mary Smith was born August 17, 1945 to Miss Mary Lizzie Sumlin and Mr. Robert Lee Shaw in Walkersville, Arkansas.  She was raised by her mother, Grandmother Mattie and Grandfather Dee Sumlin of Stephens, Arkansas.

Mrs. Bates received her education from Damascus High School of Village, Arkansas.  She accepted Christ at the early age of 12 years old and became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church of the Free Hope Community.  She was united in holy matrimony to John Lewis Bates on October 14, 1961.  To this union eight children were born.  Mrs. Bates was a wife, a mother and homemaker.

On February 18, 2014 Mrs. Bates surrendered her soul to Christ.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband: the late Rev. John Lewis Bates, three (3) children and two (2) grandchildren.

Mrs. Bates leaves to cherish her love and memory two (2) sons: Louis Matthew Jamerson (Diane) of Waco, TX and James Andrew Bates (Shelia) of Dallas, TX, three (3) daughters: Mary Marshall (Curtis) of Hope, Arkansas, Margie Marie Bates of Dallas, TX and Carol Brown (Phillip) of Little Elm, Texas.  One (1) sister: Rosetta Blackmon (Arthur) of Magnolia, AR.  One (1) brother: Roosevelt Johnson (Jeanette) of Magnolia, Arkansas and a host of grandchildren and one great grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
