Obituary
Oree Johnson, Sr. was born July 16, 1937 to the late Raleigh & Fannie Johnson. He departed this life on March 27, 2021. Oreewas born and raised in Emerson, Arkansas, and was the youngest of eight children, 6 of which preceded him in death. At an early age, he married the love of his life, Evanglean Walker, in 1953. Oree and Evanglean enjoyed holy matrimony for 68 years. He continuouslyexpressed his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren until making his transition.
Oree was a dutiful servant in his community. After joining the Pine Hill CME Church as a young man, he was actively involved and heldseveral offices: Sunday School Superintendent for more than 20 years, Trustee President, Steward Board member, choir member, and Men’s Ministry. He was a member of the Masonic Talley Lodge #177 for many years, serving as Worshipful Master for 25 years. Oreebelieved in service and leading by example, often expressing the importance of education. He became the first black school board member of the Emerson School Board after integration and served on the board for 29 years. He was also a faithful member and supporterof Emerson Community Service Organization since its establishment. Oree took pride in his work for Weyerhaeuser, formerly known as Willamette, where he worked for 47 years, retiring in 2003, laboring in different jobs along the way, from maintenance, liftdriver, security, to parts runner. He met many new people, and made many friends along the way.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Evanglean Johnson of Emerson, three children, Elizabeth Ann Polk (Aldridge),Cathy Laverne Shaw(Hent), and Oree Johnson, Jr. (Sylvia), all of Emerson, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren; Ada B. Critton, sister, of Eldorado, Mae Lena Johnson, sister in law, of Camden, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
