     Life's Reflection
Rev. John Louis Bates was born September 27, 1937  to Lucille and Earl Bates in Lester, AR.  He attended the Mt. Holly Arkansas School District.  He accepted Christ at an early age, and joined the Union AME Church of Mt. Holly, AR.  

On October 14, 1961 he and Rosie Mary Smith were united in holy matrimony.  To this union, eight children were born.  

Rev. Bates was called into the ministry, and pastored Shady Grove AME, Emmet, AR,  Pine Grove AME Church, Rosston, AR, Shorter Chapel AME Church, Blevins, AR and Bethel AME Church, Mineral Springs,AR, where he pastored until his health failed. 

On April 15, 2011 the Lord called him home.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, eight sisters, three children and two grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his love and memory, his wife, Rosie Mary Bates, two sons; Louis Bates, Jr., and James Andrew Bates, both of Dallas, TX, three daughters; Mary (Curtis) Marshall of Hope, AR, Margie Marie Bates, Carol Denise (Phillip) Brown both of Dallas, TX, six grandchildren, two sisters; Ollie V. Wesely (Willie Gene) of Camden, AR, and Mary (Louis Jr.) Baugh of IL, mother-in-law, Mary Lizzie Boyd of Magnolia, AR, sister-in-law, Rosetta (Aurthur) Blackmon, brother-in-law, Roosevelt (Jeanette) Johnson of Village, AR  and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
