Obituary
Herbert Delaney Turner was born to the late Peter and late Brunettie Williams Turner November 26, 1922 in Felton Arkansas; he was the seventh (7) of thirteen children.
Herbert attended and graduated from High School in Marianna, Arkansas and graduated from Mortuary School of Science in Brinkley, Arkansas and did his apprenticeship at Branscumb Funeral Home in Brinkley, Arkansas (still open and in business since 1928).
He listed in the United States Army in 1941 and served in WWII, he was a veteran of WWII.
He later moved to Magnolia, Arkansas in 1953 and begun to work for Marks Funeral Home and continued to work until he retired and sometimes he still performed his duties when needed or requested. He received his Lifetime Funeral Directors and Embalmers License in 2003.
Herbert loved to travel and always had his travel shoes on. He was known as the walking GPS and loved his work so much that he remembered everyone that passed away, the year they passed and where they were buried. Herbert never met a stranger.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Vernice Allen whom now he proceed in death, to this union eight (8) children were born.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Robert Lomax, Maxcine Turner Cobb, Dudley Peter Turner, Christopher Van Turner, Hazeltine Turner Robinson, Brunettie Turner, Myrtle Turner Orange, Levertis Turner, Hurley V. Turner, Arvella Turner Love, Fred W. Turner, Sallie Turner Magby; children: Florence, Rudolph, Nathan, Ray, Sonny, Shirley and Weber Turner.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one (1) daughter: Linda (Carl) Todd, two (2) sons: Gary and Cedric (Barberina) Turner; Two (2) God Sons (Whom he adopted during his working career): Telvis Todd and Terry Leaks. Sister-in-law- Gernice Turner, daughters-in-law: Flossie Turner and Patricia Turner and twenty-two (22) grandchildren, thirty-two (32) great grandchildren, and seven (7) great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews whom all loved him dearly and was known to them as “Uncle Doc” and other relatives and friends.
Herbert lived through the Great Depression Area, World War II, Civil Rights Movements, and lived to see an African American President and love to talk about the great stories he lived through because his mind was so vivid.
Herbert Turner was the last of the late Peter and late Brunettie Turner children.
