Reflections

An angel of the Lord appeared from Heaven at the homegoing of Gary F. Swopes.  He departed this life on February 29, 2012 to rest in peace from his earthly labor.

One glorious day on March 16, 1951 in Little Rock, Arkansas, God blessed the late Brown Swopes and the late Francell Brown Braggs with a precious baby boy who they named Gary Swopes.

As a child, Gary attended school in Stephens, Arkansas, graduating in 1969 from Carver High School.  As a young man, he moved to Houston, where he met and married Bernice Harris.  Gary has two sons, Gary Jr. and Chris Swopes, and six grandchildren.

Gary worked as a truck driver for DR. Pepper in the early 1980's and Apollo Papers in the 1990's.  Gary was a lot of fun and outgoing.  His pastimes included playing cards, dominoes and spending time with family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and James; two sisters, Michelle and Faye; mom and dad; and Madear and Daddy Joe.

He leaves to cherish his precious and unforgettable memories,  five sisters; Eddie Mae Bledsoe  (Willie), Charlene Brown (the late John Bully Brown), Joyce Grant (Sammy), Annette Braggs, and Shelia Laughlin (Tom); and a host of aunts, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him.
