Obituary

Sister Galvesta Latin Lindsey was born April 10, 1915 in Nevada County in Rosston, Arkansas to the late Artis Charlie and Pearl Alexander Latin.  She was the fourth child offifteen siblings.

She attended Oak Grove School in Rosston, Arkansas and finished as far as she could go in those days.

Sister Galvesta united with the Craven A.M.E. Church at an early age.  Craven A.M.E. was later named St. Luke A.M.E. Church.

On July 29, 1949 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Elmore Lindsey.  To this union four children were born.  After moving to Emerson, Arkansas she united with the Elam C.M.E. Church under the pastorate of Rev. L.P. Harris.  She served her church faithfully (even after her health began to fail).  She served in many capacities such as Church Pianist for 50 years and more, Stewardess Board, Missionary Society and Usher Board President and wherever there was a need.  She was the Worthy Matron of Silver Moon Chapter #49 until its demise.  She was a great seamstress for the community and surrounding areas.

On Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 11:15 P.M. her Lord and Savior called her from Labor to Reward.  Her parents, husband, three sons, a daughter, nine brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, James (Liz) Lindsey of Los Angeles, California; Elmore (Beverly) Lindsey of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Vora Keener of Magnolia, Arkansas; Juanita Lindsey of Dallas, Texas; Peggy (Olandus) Gulley of Texarkana, Texas; Julia (Nathaniel) Easter and Elnoria (Elmo) Combs of Emerson, Arkansas, one sister, Mrs. Joyce Evelyn Smith of Rockford, Illinois; forty-five grandchildren, eighty-seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
