A Synoposis of Her Life

Late Wednesday evening, May 4, 2011, at 10:47 PM, the Lord called from labor to reward Mrs. Flossie Mae Curry Jermany.
Flossie was born in Lester, Arkansas on October 17, 1921. She was the daughter of Mr. James and Nettie Curry. She was a member of a very close, caring, loving, and supporting family. Her parents preceded her in death.
At an early age, she united with Mt. Miriah Baptist Church, Lester Arkansas. She professed a belief in Christ and was baptized. She later united with the New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Waldo, Arkansas, where she served faithfully until death.
She served her local church with many years of Missionary Service, including the position of local WMS president, presenting workshops, prolific public speaking, and chaired many special projects for the Women’s Missionary Society and The Union Mission, she had recently been scheduled to speak for a special Union Mission Program that was postpone because of an area funeral. However, she was anxiously prepared. She was always willing to serve and especially advise the younger women.
She was united in marriage to Reverend Curley Benjamin Hughey, Sr. They were blessed with one son beloved, Wendell Lewellyn Hughey. Both, Reverend Hughey and Wendell preceded her in death.
Later, she was married to Leroy King. They were blessed with a joyful and loving daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) King. Both, Mr. King and Libby preceded her in death.
She Later Married Mr. Booker Jermany. To this union, no children were born. He preceded her in death.
She received her early education in the Smith Public School System, Lester, Arkansas.
Flossie received the B.S. degree in Education from A.M.E.N. College, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Her teaching career begin in The Smith Public School System. She was the one teacher in the one room school. Just as her father, Professor James Curry had been before her. She then taught school in Emerson, Arkansas at the former Mc Mittress School. Later she began working in the Waldo Public School District and retired from the teaching profession, after 34 years in Waldo in 1983. She was respected and loved by her many students. She never stopped teaching and loving young people.
Flossie held numerous memberships in religious, civic, social and educational organizations including NEA; AEA and CTA.
Also, preceding her in death: a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wysinger, two brothers, Joseph and Napoleon Curry. She was the last of her siblings.
She leaves to cherish memories and to celebrate her life: One son, Curley Benjamin Hughey, Jr., and one daughter, Joyce Hughey (Fredrick) Powell all of Chicago, Illinois.  One daughter-in-law, Leslie Hughey, Shreveport, Louisiana, a granddaughter, Kimberly Hughey-Daniels, Shreveport, Louisiana; twin grandsons Deric and Demetris Hughey (Detroit, Michigan) Sabrina Hughey and Darius Powell and a brother of Chicago, Illinois. Nine great-grands. She was a devoted Aunt to several nieces and nephews, among many other relatives and close friends, as well as a host of former students and co- workers.

Flossie would have been most grateful to you. Your kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.  The Family.
