Obituary
But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love him. 1st Corinthians 2:9
The Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to call home our beloved Mother Essie Lee Carter; a servant from labor to
reward, as majestic angels in silence lifted her away and carried her off to glory.

Mother Carter was born May 4, 1926, in Union Arc, Arkansas, to the late Jim and Isabelle Beavers, the youngest of thirteen
children. She attended the Union Arc schools, and at an early age moved to Magnolia. There she later was married to the late
Hasten Carter and worked as a Home Health Care Aid.

She was united in membership with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Calvin Shepherd, Sr. There she was a
faithful and dutiful member of the Usher Board, Choir, Missionary Society and Sunday school.

In 2005, she moved to Detroit, MI, to live with her daughter, where she joined Church of the New Covenant Baptist of Detroit under
the leadership of Rev. Brian M. Ellison. She loved being with the Mothers on the Mothers Board, they were a closely bonded group
of twelve ladies. Seldom, did she miss worship service and was a regular participant in many church activities. You would often see
her with the Women’s Ministry, Bible Study Class, or Sunday school and it was a joy to her when her grandson taught the class.
A highlight among many activities was helping to carry the three hundred pound cross of Jesus, symbolizing His torture on the way
to Calvary, during the Good Friday Celebration.

One of her granddaughters’ is a budding actress, and Mother Carter loved to attend her plays even if it meant brazing the ice and
snow. Mother Carter was also known as a prankster, always playing a prank on people she knew well. She loved cooking and
sweets, in particular pound cakes and Tootsie Rolls.

The Brightmoor Community Center become her fun place for exercising, Bible Study, playing bingodominoes, and gin rummy.
Additionally she found time for sewing and often created many arts and craft items. Her latest passion was making YoYo aprons and
YoYo bedspreads for her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Mary Hunter (Walter), her step daughter Margie Walls (James, deceased), five
grand children: Darrell, Velda, LaShane, Arianna (Kerry) and Jamie, seven great grandchildren T’aria, D’aria, Rickey, Kameron,
Kamille, Kilee, and Christian; and a host
