Obituary
Emma Jean Green was born on January 30, 1944, to Ezell and Mae Ella Green in Strong, Arkansas. Emma Jean was raised in the Strong community where she received her elementary and secondary education. She united with Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church at an early age.
Emma Jean met and married Clyde Staples, Jr. and to this union they had two children. Clyde and Jean yearned for the big city and later relocated to Oakland, California in the mid-sixties. She and her family connected with family and friends in and around the Oakland area. They were loved and warmly welcomed by all. Emma Jean later made Glorious Primitive Baptist Church her church home.
Have you ever known a strong-willed and very determined person? Well, you must have known Emma Jean. Her determination led her to go through a painful and lengthy recovery after having orthopedic surgery to correct her owed legs. She was tough! Her strong will to advance her education led her to Alameda Community College where she successfully completed course work there.
Many who visited Emma Jean’s home could clearly see her love for plants. She had plants everywhere! This special gift often amazed friends and family that came to see her.
Emma Jean was preceded in death by her former husband, Clyde Staples; father, Ezell Green Sr.; mother Mae Ella Green; brothers Ossie Green, Calvin Green and Lavon Green. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Clotha McHenry (Billy); two daughters, Otis (O.T.) Green and Ezell (Sonny) Green, Jr.; a son, Steve Staples; a daughter Ragina Watson (Eric); a grandson, Eric Watson, Jr.; a granddaughter, Olivia Watson; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
