Obituary
Elizabeth Bell Buffington, daughter of the late James David Bell, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Heard was born on January 12, 1919 in Noxubee, Arkansas.  From a very early age her parents instilled in her and her siblings the importance of education and religion.

She began her schooling in the community of Noxubee where she excelled in math.  After graduating from the Noxubee Community School she attended Yerger High School in Hope Arkansas and Dumbar High School and Junior College where she obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Education.  She obtained a Bachelors of Science in Education from Grambling College and a Masters of Science in Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

She began her teaching career at Walker School as a Primary Grade teacher. She moved to the Magnolia Public School system and taught at Columbia Elementary and Calhoun Heights Elementary until they were closed.  Her teaching career continued at Eastside Elementary where she remained until her retirement.  She dearly loved all of her students and worked diligently to ensure that all of her students were successful.

In 1945 she married Fairbanks Buffington and to her family and friends became affectionately known as “Miss F.B.” To this union two children were born: Emma Elizabeth and Wiley Wayman.   They were married for 54 years until his death in1999.

Elizabeth Buffington joined Trinity C.M.E. Church where she remained an active and devoted member for many years.  As a member of Trinity she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Stewardess Board, and President of the Missionary Society.  She represented Trinity’s Missionary Society at district, state, and regional meetings.

In addition to her work at Trinity, she was a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Delta Sigma Theta, and the Retired Teachers Association.
