         Obituary

Doretha Scott passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Doretha, was born on July 4, 1930 in Waldo, Arkansas as Doretha Askew. She was the last of four children, and was affectionately known as “Baby Sis.” Doretha had two older sisters, Cora and Pearl, and one older brother, Jim. Doretha met and married Valton Scott. Doretha had four children: Jo Rene; Valton Scott, Jr; Dorothy Jean; and Bridget Jane.

Doretha was a hard woman, and hard-working. She worked many years in the hotel and restaurant industries moving to Chicago and Mackinac Island at times to stay employed. When she wasn’t working for someone else, she was working for herself. During her early adulthood in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Doretha owned her own business called “Dorothy’s Glamour Bar and Grill.” It was a small establishment known for its New Year Eve’s fare of black-eyed peas and other fine southern cuisine.

In 1970, Doretha, her two adult children, and her two youngest children moved to California. Doretha thrived in California. She was not only hard-working she was adventurous and fun-loving as well – she loved life! Doretha loved getting dressed up, wearing nice clothes, lots of make-up and jewelry, and going out on the town. She was also the ultimate hostess and was an enthusiastic storyteller. She spent many hours entertaining her two young daughters. She often spent time with them and their friends, playing cards and telling stories about her childhood and early adulthood. Doretha also loved the theatre. She often performed in Los Angeles whenever she stayed with her youngest daughter who lived in Los Angeles.

Doretha is preceded in death by her three siblings, her grandson Andre Lamont Porter, and her great-grandchildren Makayla and Demarea. She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Doretha was loved by many, and her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
