D.A. Payne was born to Ollie V. Smith and Aggie B. Payne on June 2, 1931 in Waldo, Arkansas, and both preceded him in death.
In his early years, he confessed to Christ and united with the Bethel AME Church.

He was married to Christeen Payne who preceded him in death.  To this union, two sons and two daughters were born.

He was preceded in death by his brother, B.J. Payne and son, Andrea Dempris Payne.

He leaves to mourn his passing, three (3) sons; Willie D. (Helen) Payne of Stamps, Arkansas, Freddie Lee Payne of Waldo, Arkansas and David Payne of Magnolia, Arkansas, four (4) daughters; Patricia Ann Wright of Dallas, Texas, Kaylene (Charlie) Payne Glasper, Delois (Craig) Sharpe, Tammie (Dale) Jones all of Magnolia, Arkansas, two (2) sisters; Betty (Hermon) Martin and Tressie Lee Walker both of Houston, Texas, two (2) brothers, Marzell (Betty) Payne of California and Chester (Rena) Payne of Texas, eleven (11) grandchildren; Marcarlas Wright, William M. Wright, Jarexus Wright, Mark Hamilton, Shelia Marie Payne, Willie James Payne, Crystal Lyn Payne, LeKena Sharpe, Craig Sharpe, Jr., Dietrick Wyrick and Cordero Jones, Jr., eight (8) great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
